Pranayama is the practice of breath control in yoga. In modern yoga, exercise consisting of synchronized breath with movements and poses is called Vinyasa.
Pranayama is derived from the Sanskrit words prana (life force) and ayama (extending or drawing out). It is a key component of yoga, and is often practiced alongside asanas (physical postures) and dhyana (meditation).
